Nutrition for young children is becoming an increasingly important topic in today’s society and as an organisation, our vision is to support our centres to lead the way food is served in ECE.

Our Nutrition programme is called “Nourish” – “Thriving minds, active bodies, nurtured hearts”. A slogan we hold close to our hearts – we believe that through nourishing food, children are fuelled to thrive physically and mentally, whilst enjoying the benefits of coming together and connecting as a group at mealtimes (nurtured hearts). We have a special opportunity to partner with parents to positively impact young children’s lives through not only establishing healthy eating patterns, but also ensuring our little ones around the country are fuelled with the right nutrients to thrive, grow and learn in their early stages of life.

We have a partnership and close relationship with a very passionate and qualified dietitian, Julia Scott. We have worked with Julia and our centre cooks to develop and create menus for our centres with recipes that are dietitian approved, and have been thoughtfully designed using the NZ Heart Foundation’s, Healthy Heart – Gold, Silver and Bronze Award for Early Childhood Centres. Our menus are also in line with the NZ Food & Nutrition Guidelines and the Ministry of Health (MOH) Healthy Eating for babies, toddlers and children.

Nourish encompasses seasonal (Summer and Winter) 4 – week rotating menus, with a wide variety of nourishing meals for the children across our centres. Across morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, our fabulous centre cooks use the Nourish menu to provide foods that are minimally processed, avoiding recipes that are high in added sugar, instead using fresh, real and wholesome ingredients.
